L'Institut AllergoSan di Graz segna la svolta del futuro della medicina probiotica

Numerose scoperte cliniche corroborano l’importante successo terapeutico di questi batteri probiotici in presenza di diverse patologie, dalla diarrea associata agli antibiotici e stati depressivi fino alla vaginosi batterica recidiva.

La qualità è il nostro DNA

L’Institut AllergoSan è impegnato dal 1991 nel campo della ricerca e della terapia probiotica, non a caso il marchio di famiglia OMNi-BiOTiC®1 è il numero uno nel mercato dei probiotici. La Dott.ssa Anita Frauwallner, fondatrice e direttrice dell’Institut Allergosan spiega: “Una ricerca scientifica basata su studi di alto livello costituiscono il punto di partenza per i nostri probiotici. Selezioniamo appositamente i vari ceppi batterici naturalmente presenti nel corpo umano in modo tale che riescano a colonizzare l’intestino e a riprodursi. Questo viene naturalmente corroborato da diversi studi condotti da cliniche rinomate.”

La rigorosa selezione dei ceppi batterici umani è stata rappresentata in modo particolarmente significativo in uno studio2 dell’ospedale AKH di Vienna: sono stati isolati dall’intestino e dalla vagina di donne in salute i germi responsabili della corretta colonizzazione vaginale. I più forti tra loro vengono selezionati nel corso di procedure lunghe e complesse al fine di trattare donne colpite da malattie quali infezioni recidive alle vie urinarie, vaginosi batterica oppure infezioni fungine attraverso l’introduzione nell’organismo di batteri probiotici, i quali vanno ad agire sulle cause insediandosi stabilmente nell’intestino. “L’Institut AllergoSan sfrutta il sapere acquisito nei decenni per la ricerca in modo da identificare i ceppi batterici appositi per trattare diverse problematiche legate alla salute. Medici e farmacisti hanno instaurato un rapporto di fiducia verso questi probiotici grazie agli studi scientifici pubblicati su riviste scientifiche di alto livello, i quali comprovano la loro validità ed efficacia. È questo il caso della ricerca condotta sul trattamento della diarrea associata agli antibiotici apparso sul rinomato “American Journal of Gastroenterology” e dichiarato dall’OMS tra i 15 migliori studi sui probiotici a livello mondiale. Grande riconoscenza hanno avuto anche quelli realizzati sull’impiego dei probiotici in gravidanza, i quali contribuiscono a regolare il funzionamento del sistema immunitario e a ridurre notevolmente il rischio di allergie, asma e neurodermite nei bambini con familiarità. Questi risultati sono stati pubblicati sulla rinomata rivista scientifica “Allergy” con il nome di “studio PANDA”. Anche sul “Journal Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics” è apparso uno studio che ha riscosso particolare successo: in collaborazione con l’Università di Medicina di Graz è stato possibile dimostrare che un probiotico appositamente sviluppato è in grado di migliorare la funzionalità epatica persino nei pazienti con grave cirrosi epatica. Si tratta infatti di una possibilità terapeutica mai esistita prima e per di più senza effetti collaterali, i quali subentrerebbero nel caso di un trapianto di fegato, l’unica alternativa possibile a un trattamento a base di probiotici.

Investire continuamente nella ricerca

Tra i successi più recenti della ricerca sono da annoverare due studi riguardanti l’utilizzo di uno speciale probiotico che inibisce i germi patogeni nella diarrea associata all’uso di antibiotici. Durante il primo studio, al quale hanno preso parte più di 200 pazienti, è stato dimostrato che il gruppo che ha assunto il probiotico ha riscontrato decisamente meno effetti collaterali durante la terapia antibiotica e non ha contratto alcuna infezione da Clostridium difficile, un batterio che può causare una pericolosa disbiosi intestinale. Nello specifico riportiamo i risultati riguardanti il più alto gruppo di rischio, comprendente pazienti sopra i 90 anni. Coloro che hanno assunto il probiotico non hanno avuto la diarrea, mentre il 45% del gruppo di partecipanti che non ha assunto il probiotico ha avuto scariche diarroiche. Questi ottimi risultati hanno anche avuto un impatto positivo sull’organizzazione dell’ospedale, in cui, grazie alla riduzione degli episodi di diarrea, è stato possibile sia ridurre le misure d’igiene che i costi del personale3.

Il secondo studio da menzionare, in cui sono stati riscontrati eccellenti risultati, riguarda un gruppo di pazienti col cancro, sottoposto contemporaneamente a chemioterapia e a terapia antibiotica. Nessun paziente, al quale è stato somministrato il probiotico, ha avuto la diarrea nonostante la chemioterapia insieme all’assunzione dell’antibiotico possano provocare diversi effetti collaterali. La qualità di vita dei pazienti è migliorata ed inoltre non solo sono stati riscontrati miglioramenti nei cicli terapeutici ma sono state anche rilevate meno interruzioni della chemioterapia4.

Anche in ambito ginecologico sono stati condotti degli studi che hanno mostrato risultati sorprendenti. Nello specifico ci riferiamo a un gruppo di donne che hanno riscontrato difficoltà a rimanere incinte e alle quali è stato somministrato uno speciale probiotico, contenente quattro ceppi di Lactobacillus. Durante questo studio è emerso in primo luogo che l’assunzione del probiotico ha un effetto protettivo contro la colonizzazione del batterio Ureaplasma parvum nella mucosa vaginale. Esso, infatti, viene spesso associato a sterilità, malattie perinatali e natimortalità. In secondo luogo, l’assunzione del probiotico, non solo contribuisce a mantenere sano il microbioma vaginale, ma rappresenta anche una possibile alternativa al trattamento delle donne che hanno difficoltà a concepire un figlio5.

Sono proprio questi studi e altri 40 progetti di ricerca, ai quali partecipa l’Institut AllergoSan, che lo rendono il centro austriaco per la ricerca sul microbioma: “Il futuro appartiene alla medicina probiotica.
