The Highest Scientific Standards
“We have repeatedly shown our entrepreneurial courage by making large investments in research because this is the only way we can guarantee that our products fulfil the highest scientific standards and, therefore, really help our customers,” says CEO Anita Frauwallner about the philosophy behind Institut Allergosan.
High investments in research
More than 30 years ago, Institut AllergoSan took the first steps on a courageous path. At the time, probiotic medicine was a largely unexplored field with many unanswered questions. When Institut AllergoSan in Graz began to specialise in this field and invest in microbiome research, there were also many critical voices. “Some people thought we were crazy because, from an economic point of view, it didn’t seem to be a promising area at the time. However, we didn’t act out of economic motives but out of the conviction that we could really help many people. That’s why we started developing the OMNi-BiOTiC® products,” says Anita Frauwallner, who has managed Institut AllergoSan since its founding.
Pioneering international microbiome research
The intestine is at the centre of medical and scientific interest – or more precisely, the trillions of bacteria that colonise it. With increasing research into the microbiome, it is becoming clearer what a central role intestinal bacteria play in our health and in the development – and therefore also the treatment – of health conditions.
Innovation and Responsibility
This courageous attitude has been maintained through the years. Anita Frauwallner is convinced that this is what every company needs in order to remain innovative, but she also claims that it needs a high sense of responsibility: “We have a great obligation towards our customers and employees. Jobs must be preserved and the quality of the products must be maintained. Many of our customers depend on our products because they have no equivalent substitute available; therefore, supply must also be guaranteed.” In order to ensure that as many people as possible in other countries can also benefit from the high quality of the products from Institut AllergoSan, they started to expand abroad: “Our products are very well received because there is hardly anything comparable,” says Frauwallner.
Despite all the changes in the company, Institut AllergoSan remains true to one vision: “The close connection between nature and science is the most important thing for us. That is what distinguishes us and our products,” says Anita Frauwallner.
Ongoing Research
Science is constantly making great strides and researchers have developed a method to decode the genetic material of organisms, including bacteria, down to the last detail – first came 16s sequencing, then, 15 years later, Shotgun.
Today, this genetic sequencing is the gold standard in the quality analysis of bacteria. That is why it is also used for quality testing of our multispecies probiotics.
When analysing the bacterial strains used in OMNi-BiOTiC® PANDA by means of state-of-the-art genetic sequencing, it could be determined that this highly specialised probiotic contains two very similar bacterial strains that were previously thought to be one and the same strain. Since our analytical methods always meet the highest standards, we are now declaring this additional bacterial strain on OMNi-BiOTiC® PANDA packaging as well.
Note: Neither the production process, nor the formulation, nor the function of the product have changed, only a more precise analysis method has been used! It goes without saying that all research results on OMNi-BiOTiC® are still valid without restrictions.
